Jeremy James

If one were to combine passion for life, the energy of the streets and powerful creative expression into one being, you would have the artistically gifted Malene Younglao. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, she migrated to New York City in 1990. It was in Brooklyn, at the age of 10, that her love affair with music became official. Now, at the age of 23, Malene's love affair has blossomed into a marriage – an intense adoration that she wishes to share with anyone with the capacity to listen.

The child of activist parents, she has always been considered a rebel, pushing the boundaries of sound and challenging the status quo. She expresses this revolutionary attitude through her personal style, flare, and hardcore rock/street hip hop sound. An advocate of social reform, she has been influenced by legendary greats such as Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Aerosmith & Tupac Shakur.

Her music is exemplary of the sights, sounds and smells of the inner city. An eclectic mixture of hip-hop, gansta rap, rock and soul, Malene's music strikes the listener with the bitter sweetness of life and survival. Standing tall at 6 ft. with a seductive demeanor, innate sensuality, and undeniable charm, Malene has graced the fashion pages of Source Magazine and has also hosted a myriad of events including the BET College Weekend. She is a woman of stature capable of captivating audiences and leaving them mesmerized by her presence. She is a dedicated artist tirelessly performing show after show in order to touch the masses. She studied jazz vocals at Howard University and has performed at various events throughout the DC entertainment scene such as Poetry for Peace, Critical Resistance Film Festival and the Women Fighting HIV Benefit Concert. She has been featured at Groove Gumbo, Soledad Soldier's Artist Showcase, and The Movement at Bar Nun as well as a host of other events.

Malene is a crowd favorite known to pack venues and leave audiences craving
more. Passionate, intelligent and down to earth, Malene's goal is clear: "To bring to light the multiplicity of the human experience; pain, love, pleasure and
contradiction." A representative of the inner city streets, she is no stranger to struggle. She dares us to listen to her belt out heartfelt lyrics over pulsating drums, driving bass lines and screaming guitars. She challenges us to question the very lives we lead and embrace every part of our experience.

Ultimately, Malene Younglao encourages us to pioneer our own path and explore the road less travelled, remembering that we are never alone in our journey.

Jeremy James' has an incredible sound – one that is forged of mellow electric grooves, caressed with some acoustic guitar – in a style that reminds us of classic Isley Brothers and Stevie wonder at their sweet, sweet best! Often described as being a cross between Stevie Wonder and Seal, Jeremy's voice seems to embrace both sides of this style equally – slightly raspy at some points, with an honest, organic quality, warm, strong, heart felt songs, and passionate edgy vocals. "Vintage James surfaces when his virtuosity is given ample room to showcase itself."

(Another Deep Design) "I believe in writing songs that people can relate to. Armed with my guitar, I write about my experience and I love when I meet someone that is able to feel my thoughts within the music."

Sparlha Swa was born in Stony Hill, Kingston, Jamaica on a May morning underneath an amethyst sky. At 4 months old her family moved to the United States, where Sparlha was transplanted numerous times from New York City to Santa Cruz, San Franciso back to Jamaica, Montserrat to Long Island. Her cosmopolitan upbringing is easily reflected in her music, for whether they be folk or soul, Brazilian or rock, the strands that weave her refreshing sound are drawn from a wide variety of musical genres. Most likely you’ll be reminded of Sade or Tracey Chapman, lets see, Joan Armatrading, Dido and perhaps even Joni Mitchell. But then she gets off her stool, puts down the guitar and has the entire audience singing along to acappella cries for a “heart revolution”, then you just won’t know how to classify her music.

What will capture you in her performance is the shocking clarity and emotion-rich power of her voice. With a range like Aretha Franklin, and the tonal sensibilities of a modern day Ella, her vocal spells will hit hard and linger on long past their delivery. Coupling such vocals with acoustic guitar, Sparlha accompanies herself with lush chords, and hypnotic finger-picking, arrangements. Add to this concoction the soulful poetry of lyrics that speak eloquently on love, life, and spirit, and you will understand that what we have on our hands is an artist out to change the world from the inside.

Sparlha is a gifted vocalist, songwriter, a self-taught guitarist and a poet, but her multi-talented abilities also include Ivy League smarts. It was at Stanford University where she studied Religion, Writing, and Eco-Philosophy, that she composed her first song instead of writing a Sociology paper. “I couldn’t say what I wanted to say in just words,” says Sparlha, “It needed to be sung”. So she bought herself a $100 guitar and while teaching herself to play, wrote her first 8 songs, many of which have been produced on her debut album “In The Distance” released in Febuary, 2005.

Since June of 2002 Sparlha Swa has performed on hundreds of stages, sold over a thousand units of a home-recorded demo “Uprising”, generated an audible buzz on both coasts, in New York City and the Bay Area, and created a solid foundation for a prolific and impactful career.

Her recent exploits include performing in a singer-songwriter series soon to be aired on PBS, opening up for the infamous Reggae Dance Hall artist Junior Kelly for an audience of 4000 in Trinidad and Tobago, performing solo at prestigious NYC venues including Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar, and being featured on the Woodstock Film Festival compilation CD.

Sparlha now resides in Brooklyn, NY where she performs, composes, and pursues a record deal with the vision and drive of a small army equipped with only flowers.

Ainsley Burrows
www.ainsleyburrows.net

Once again... in the musical evolution of time, we find ourselves in the need of a solution to the question “How can we take music to the next level?” Which only has one answer. Which only has been given to a chosen few. One of those chosen few is an emcee. His name is FARO.Z.

FARO.Z is quite often compared to KRS, for his ability to get a positive message across in a creative hip hop manner. FARO.Z got his earliest rap influences from Rakim. Later on, in the about nineteen ninety three he heard Das Efx, and Snoop Dogg, and has yet to put down his pen. FARO.Z has always been a musically creative person, gifted with great writing, speaking and memory skills.

Equipped with a Brooklyn home-grown delivery, a large vocabulary, and an international message of solidarity in his lyrics; all that was left was production. FARO.Z linked up with Live EraProductions (music), Graphika Design Group (graphic design), DGT D'Zynz Studios (merchandising and promotion) and collaborated to create the Old World Entertainment Inc: “The Return to that which is Glorious About our Past.”

Once again...

In the midst of a "poetic renaissance", Ainsley Burrows, a self published poet, spoken word artist, and musician, stands out in the crowd. At the tender age of 25, Burrows has established himself as an accomplished spoken word artist, a universal poet, and a talented musician.

Ainsley's dreams of becoming a literary icon was stalled by his feeling of making a 'smart' career choice. Prior to his revlataion for a writing career, Ainsley was pursuing a career in the financial industry and recieving a Bachelors degree in Accounting was one of the steps taken. Later, he began graduate work in an MBA program. It was in his first year of graduate school that Burrows decided he could no longer deny his passion for writing.

He had began writing for the university paper early in his college career, performing some of his early works of poetry, and formed a band called Veritcle 8. His performances became popular and Ainsley soon began touring the local colleges. After an almost fatal car accident, Burrows realized that writing was his calling, and left business school to pursue writing full time. The energy put into his literary career gave birth to a remarkable, self-published book of poetry entitled, "Black Angels with sky blue feathers", and a debut album of spoken word called "Cataclysm".

"Black Angels with sky blue feathers", is a collection of poems that embraces the soul, it is expressed in an articulate fashion true poetry lovers can appreciate. The book begins its literary genesis with a poem entitled, "A Rose in Harlem ", depicting a woman with a soul and spirit as deep as Harlem itself, and concludes with a piece called "Notes on my piano", giving insight into Burrows' philosophy on life. "I am a mere chronicler of the stories that I see in the eyes of these victims of time. I see their hurt. I write about them and their pain in order to understand myself, and my pain."

Derived from "Black Angels with blue sky feathers", his debut album, "Cataclysm", a combination of spoken word and musical artistry. It gives poetry and music lovers a feeling of having cake and eating it, too, as one listens to the poetry that is fluid, passionate and complex, enhanced with music that strengthens its delivery. Each song takes you on a musical, inspirational journey that allows you to bear witness to the depth of Ainsley Burrows' genius.

Ainsley resides in New York and is currently working on his first novel.
